Bamboo is a cellulosic fibre derived from the bamboo plant, which is a member of the grass family. There are two methods for turning bamboo into a fibre suitable for spinning. These are chemical or mechanical. The merchanical process uses retting similar to linen and is defined as a natural fibre. The chemical process uses carbo disulfide (CS2) and effectively turns the bamboo into rayon, thereby making it a semi-synthic.
