Polyester is a synthetic fibre, patented by DuPont in 1941. It is derived from petroleum. Ethylene glycol is mixed with purified terephthalic acid producing polyethylene terephthalate (PET). This is then extruded through a spinneret to produce fibres which are then spun into yarn for weaving or knitting. This fabric is one of the world’s most popular textiles, and it is used in thousands of different consumer and industrial applications
