A very fine soft lustrous fibre produced by a silkworm to make its cocoon. Most of the world’s silk is derived from Bombyx mori larvae, which are worms that only live on mulberry trees. Cultivation of domesticated silk originated in China. The biggest producing countries of silk are: China, India, Thailand, Japan and Brazil.
