Viscose is a semi-synthetic fibre made from wood pulp. It was initially sold as used as a silk substitute. In the USA it is more known as rayon. The wood pulp is treated with carbon disulfide (CS2) to extract the fibres and then treated with sodium hydroxide (NaOH), these chemicals are both harmful to people working its processing and harmful to the environment.
