The Retail Success Series is a step-by-step business development program, helping independent retailers to grow their sales & profits, through tried and tested management tools.

Each of 9 monthly workshops has been developed to give the small retail business owner or manager all the skills and knowledge they need to compete in today’s global and ever more complex retail market.

Monthly, participants in the program attend a 3-hour workshop, each workshop focusses on a different aspect of retail management.  This is not however, a purely theoretical course, it is a practical how to guide, designed specifically for the independent retailer.
As well as this, there is a host of online tools, regular webinars, and great business templates for you to use: –

1. Planning For Success

At the start of each season or buying period you need to take time out to evaluate the previous season and plan for the next.  This workshop gives retailers all the skills they need to prepare a 6-month merchandise financial plan to ensure they have optimal stock levels to deliver sound financial results, as well as manage cash flow and merchandise into the business.

4. Marketing For Success

Standing out from the crowd is increasingly important.  This workshop teaches retailers how to prepare a 6-month marketing plan and promotional calendar, how to get the best bang for your buck, as well as how navigate through and use social media.

7. Negotiating for Success

The ability to negotiate with your suppliers will ensure you get the best deal you can.  In this workshop we look at the stages of a negotiation, how to handle bullies and why negotiations go wrong.  This workshop is designed to give you some tools and tactics to make you a stronger negotiator.

2. Buying For Success

There are many pitfalls when it comes to buying a commercial, customer focussed range that delivers real choice to your customer.  In this workshop we learn how to translate your merchandise financial plan into a sound range framework, how to develop the assortment plan and manage a monthly Open-to-Buy as well as how to best manage your suppliers.

5. E-tailing for Success

Today’s customer expects to be able to buy from you online.  This workshop looks at ways in which independent retail stores can compete on a global scale using e-commerce solutions that broaden the retailer’s customer base.

8. Finance for Success

Strong financial acumen is of paramount importance to any business owner or manager. We look at the important metrics  such as stockturn and GMROI used to measure success and the levers you can pull to improve productivity and profit.

3. Trading For Success

The biggest impact on a retailer’s profit is markdown.  In this workshop we look at how to optimise the profitability of stock in stores. We look at the impact markdown will have on your profitability, how you can increase your stockturn and GMROI, how to cost a promotion and how to minimise dead stock.  words words words words words words words words

6. Selling For Success

Bricks & Mortar retailing is all about the experience.  This workshop focuses on optimising store layout and key selling spaces, covers tips for simple yet effective visual merchandising as well as looking at customer service and sales techniques.

9. Strategise for Success

In the final workshop we look at how you develop your business strategy to grow your business.  Drawing from your knowledge of the previous workshops, you will develop a 3-year strategic growth plan to take your business to the next level.
