The production or quality assurance department works alongside the buying and product development teams ensuring that product ranges are clear of defects and meet the needs and expectations of customers.  This internship will see you working within the production/quality department of a retailer, wholesaler or product brand.

What does the production/quality assurance internship program involve?

Learning & Development Objectives

During the internship, you will have the opportunity to learn and develop essential skills in production management and quality assurance within the retail or consumer product industries. The key learning and development areas include:

Production management:

  • Gain insight into the end-to-end production process, from sourcing raw materials to product assembly and packaging.
  • Learn production planning, scheduling, and inventory management techniques to optimize workflow efficiency.

Quality assurance and control:

  • Develop skills in conducting quality inspections and implementing quality control measures.
  • Learn to identify defects, deviations, and inconsistencies in products and materials.

Supplier collaboration:

  • Understand how the production/QA department collaborates with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure the timely delivery of materials and finished products that meet quality standards.
  • Develop negotiation skills and supplier relationship management techniques

Compliance and sustainability:

  • Understand industry regulations and standards related to product safety, labelling, and environmental sustainability.
  • Learn about sustainable manufacturing practices and their integration into production processes.

Communication and teamwork:

  • Enhance communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and manufacturers.
  • Work on team projects, fostering teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Tasks and responsibilities:

The intern will be engaged in a variety of tasks designed to enhance their skills and contribute to the smooth functioning of your production processes. Your tasks may include:

 

  • Assisting in quality inspections of raw materials, semi-finished goods, and final products.
  • Collaborating with suppliers to ensure the timely delivery of materials while adhering to quality standards.
  • Assisting in the development of production schedules and tracking production progress.
  • Analyzing production data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Observing production meetings and contributing to process optimization strategies.
  • Documenting quality issues, implementing corrective actions, and monitoring their effectiveness.
  • Assisting in ensuring compliance with industry regulations and sustainability standards.
  • Contributing to the development of training materials related to quality assurance protocols.

How do I enrol onto the program?

First you select whether you wish to do the standard or premium program and pay the appropriate preparation fee.  Whilst you are undertaking the preparation stage with our careers team, our placement team will be busy finding the 'best fit' internship for you.

Once you are interview ready, we will organise interviews with prospective intern partners.  When you have been offered and accepted an internship, you pay placement fee, and your 12-week internship will start.

Internship:

Standard Internship Fees

The standard internship fee is $1,990 and is paid in two parts as indicated below:

Preparation:  $795 (including GST)

Internship Placement:  $1,195 (including GST)

Premium Internship Fees

The premium internship fee is $2,490 and is paid in two parts as indicated below:

Preparation:  $1,295 (including GST)
